The Craft Behind the Kodi with Handwork
Kodi (cowrie shell) work is a traditional craft from Gujarat and Rajasthan — each shell hand-fixed individually rather than machine-applied. Here, the shells are painted in multicolour to add vibrancy to the design, and set around oxidised silver centrepieces that give the blouse a folk-craft quality. The dangling cowrie trim at the hem adds movement and a delicate jingle effect.

All kodi (cowrie shells) on this blouse are hand-applied — each shell is individually fixed around the oxidised silver disc centres. Minor placement variations between pieces are natural to handwork.
Will the cowrie shells fall off?
The shells are firmly fixed during assembly. With careful hand-washing and gentle handling they hold well. Avoid catching them on zips or sharp jewellery.
What does the back look like?
The back is open with a dori (cord) tie-up — you tie it yourself for the fit you need. The halter-style neck also ties at the back. The smocked side panels allow some natural stretch for comfort.
How to wash this blouse?
Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Do not scrub the embellished areas. Lay flat in shade to dry. Machine washing can stress the hand-applied shells and oxidised disc work.
